Synthesized commentary, isnad grading & cross-references

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #7906 in al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim).

[Isnad Grading & Assessment]: Scholar verdicts : al-Dhahabi (Talkhis): إن كان معمر سمع من المقبري فهو صحيح على شرط البخاري ومسلم.

[Core Subject]: The Dajjal (al-Masih al-Dajjal, the false messiah) is a single man who will appear near the end and claim to be God. Every prophet warned his people about him, and the Prophet ﷺ called his trial the greatest from the creation of Adam until the Hour.

[Described Characteristics]: He is a young man, stocky, with thick curly hair, blind in his right eye, which looks like a floating grape. Between his eyes is written ka-fa-ra (kafir), which every believer can read, literate or not. He brings what looks like paradise and hell, but his paradise is fire and his fire is cool water. He orders the sky to rain and it rains. He stays forty days: one like a year, one like a month, one like a week, the rest like ordinary days. He cannot enter Makkah or Madinah.

[Timeline & Context]: In the narrated order he is the first of the great signs. He comes after the great battle with the Romans and the conquest of Constantinople, and Isa (AS) kills him at the gate of Lud.

[Prophetic Practice]: Memorise the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf, read al-Kahf on Fridays, and in every prayer before the salam ask Allah's refuge from the trial of the Dajjal. Whoever hears of him should keep away from him.

[Core Subject]: The Prophet ﷺ urged hastening to good deeds ahead of seven things, one of them 'a sudden, dispatching death'; its spread is counted among the signs of the latter days.

[Described Characteristics]: Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Hasten to good deeds ahead of seven. Are you waiting for anything but a poverty that makes you forget, a wealth that makes you transgress, a sickness that corrupts, a senility that confounds, a sudden death, the Dajjal - an awaited evil absent one - or the Hour, and the Hour is more calamitous and bitter?' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2306). Tirmidhi called it hasan gharib; later scholars grade the chain weak.

[Timeline & Context]: A general admonition about the latter days; it fixes no date and sets no order.

[Prophetic Practice]: Do not postpone repentance and good deeds; keep your accounts with Allah and people settled, so that a sudden death finds you ready.
