Scholarly Commentary & Context

Synthesized commentary, isnad grading & cross-references

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #4867 in al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim).

[Isnad Grading & Assessment]: Scholar verdicts : al-Dhahabi (Talkhis):

[Core Subject]: A hadith says that in a final battle even stones and trees will speak and point out those hiding behind them, except the gharqad, a thorny desert shrub (boxthorn).

[Described Characteristics]: This is a miracle described for one specific battle at the end of time, when nature itself takes part. It is not a description of any ordinary conflict.

[Timeline & Context]: Scholars such as Ibn Hajar and al-Nawawi place it in the time of Isa (AS), in the fight against the Dajjal's army after the Dajjal is killed, when Isa leads the believers. It belongs to that moment, not to any present conflict.

[Prophetic Practice]: 'Let not hatred of a people lead you to injustice. Be just: that is nearer to piety' (al-Ma'idah 5:8).

[Geographical Locations]: Mentioned in narration : Madinah.
