The Romans have a king who does not disobey him or hardly disobeys him at all, so he marches with them until he settles them in such-and-such a land for days that I forgot. He said: “For it is written in the chapter: ‘The believers will be extended from Aden and Abyan on their pens. They will march and kill ten. You will not eat except with your tools, and nothing will be kept between you except the night. The likes of which are rarely seen, and the likes of which are not seen, to the point that birds pass by them and die from the stench of their odor. For the martyr that day, so-and-so will be responsible for the martyrs who went before them, or for the believers that day, so-and-so will be responsible for the believers who went before them, and their resurrection will never be shaken, and the rest of them will fight the Dajjal. Muhammad said: And I was informed that Abdullah bin Salam said: If he overtakes me and he is not in strength, then carry me on my bed until you put him between the two rows. Muhammad said: And I was informed that Ka'b used to say: Allah has two slaughters among the Christians, one of which has passed and the other remains

Synthesized commentary, isnad grading & cross-references

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #1250 in Kitab al-Fitan (Nu'aym ibn Hammad).

[Scholarly Verification Notice]: Recorded in Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan (d. 228 AH). Hadith scholars classify this historical compilation as ungraded and weak overall; its isolated reports are not accepted as established doctrine unless corroborated by standard Sahih works.

[Core Subject]: The Dajjal (al-Masih al-Dajjal, the false messiah) is a single man who will appear near the end and claim to be God. Every prophet warned his people about him, and the Prophet ﷺ called his trial the greatest from the creation of Adam until the Hour.

[Described Characteristics]: He is a young man, stocky, with thick curly hair, blind in his right eye, which looks like a floating grape. Between his eyes is written ka-fa-ra (kafir), which every believer can read, literate or not. He brings what looks like paradise and hell, but his paradise is fire and his fire is cool water. He orders the sky to rain and it rains. He stays forty days: one like a year, one like a month, one like a week, the rest like ordinary days. He cannot enter Makkah or Madinah.

[Timeline & Context]: In the narrated order he is the first of the great signs. He comes after the great battle with the Romans and the conquest of Constantinople, and Isa (AS) kills him at the gate of Lud.

[Prophetic Practice]: Memorise the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf, read al-Kahf on Fridays, and in every prayer before the salam ask Allah's refuge from the trial of the Dajjal. Whoever hears of him should keep away from him.

[Core Subject]: Al-Rum, the Romans, were the Byzantine Empire in the Prophet's time. Many narrations about the end speak of the Muslims' relations with them: a truce, a joint war, then the great battle.

[Described Characteristics]: Amr ibn al-As heard that the Hour will come when the Romans are the most numerous of people, and he listed their good qualities: they are the most forbearing in trial, the quickest to recover after a disaster, the best to the poor, orphans and the weak, and they resist the oppression of kings.

[Timeline & Context]: Their part runs through the whole time before the Dajjal: first the truce, then the war, then the conquest of Constantinople.

[Prophetic Practice]: Amr's words teach fairness: name the good in others even when speaking of conflict.

[Geographical Locations]: Mentioned in narration : Aden.
