Kitab al-Fitan of Nu'aym ibn Hammad: ungraded, and weak overall. Never established on its own.

Then you depart, having achieved victory and spoils, and they go down to a hilly meadow, and someone who says to them says: The cross has defeated, and a Muslim says: Nay, Allah has defeated. So they negotiate it for an hour, and the Muslim leaps to their cross while it is not far from it and knocks it down, and they revolt against it and kill it, and the Muslims revolt to their weapons, and Allah Almighty honors that band of Muslims with martyrdom, so they come to their king and say: The Arabs are enough of you, so they treacherously, and they gather. [Collection & Reference]: Narration #1262 in Kitab al-Fitan (Nu'aym ibn Hammad).

[Scholarly Verification Notice]: Recorded in Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan (d. 228 AH). Hadith scholars classify this historical compilation as ungraded and weak overall; its isolated reports are not accepted as established doctrine unless corroborated by standard Sahih works.

[Core Subject]: Al-Malhamah al-Kubra is the great battle between the Muslims and the Romans (al-Rum) near the end of time. The narrations describe it as one of the fiercest wars in history.

[Described Characteristics]: The Romans land at al-A'maq or Dabiq in northern Syria. An army from Madinah, the best people on earth in that day, goes out to meet them. A third flees and Allah never accepts their repentance, a third are killed and are the best martyrs, and a third win and are never tried again. Sahih Muslim describes a battle so long that men pledge to fight to the death three days running, and so deadly that a bird flying past the bodies falls dead before reaching their end.

[Timeline & Context]: It comes after a truce with the Romans breaks down, and before the conquest of Constantinople and the Dajjal.

[Prophetic Practice]: The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Do not wish to meet the enemy; ask Allah for well-being. But if you meet them, be steadfast.'
