Kitab al-Fitan of Nu'aym ibn Hammad: ungraded, and weak overall. Never established on its own.

Traced to Ka'b al-Ahbar (automatic guess): a report of earlier scriptures, not a hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

A trial has engulfed you like pieces of a dark night, from which neither the east nor the west will be saved, except those who take shelter in the shade of Lebanon between it and the sea, for they are safer than others, and that is when this house of mine burns, and it burned in the year one hundred and twenty-two.

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #1959 in Kitab al-Fitan (Nu'aym ibn Hammad).

[Scholarly Verification Notice]: Recorded in Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan (d. 228 AH). Hadith scholars classify this historical compilation as ungraded and weak overall; its isolated reports are not accepted as established doctrine unless corroborated by standard Sahih works.

[Core Subject]: The Prophet ﷺ warned of trials (fitan) that will come like pieces of a dark night, one after another, so confusing that a man is a believer in the morning and a disbeliever by evening.

[Described Characteristics]: People sell their religion for a small worldly gain. In such trials, the one sitting is better than the one standing, and the one standing better than the one running toward it.

[Timeline & Context]: They began after the Prophet's ﷺ death and continue in waves.

[Prophetic Practice]: 'Hasten to good deeds before trials like pieces of a dark night.' Seek refuge from the trials, the seen and the unseen.
