Kitab al-Fitan of Nu'aym ibn Hammad: ungraded, and weak overall. Never established on its own.

Al-Sufyani will come in his dream and it will be said to him: Get up and go out. He will get up and find no one. Then he will come a second time and it will be said to him like that. Then he will be told a third time: Get up and go out and see who is at the door of your house. The third time he will go down to the door of his house, and he will find seven or nine people with a banner. They will say: We are your companions. Then he will go out among them and people from the villages of Wadi Al-Yabis will follow him. Then the owner of Damascus will go out to meet him and fight him. I saw him defeated, and he became governor of Damascus at that time and of Banu Abbas

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #823 in Kitab al-Fitan (Nu'aym ibn Hammad).

[Scholarly Verification Notice]: Recorded in Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan (d. 228 AH). Hadith scholars classify this historical compilation as ungraded and weak overall; its isolated reports are not accepted as established doctrine unless corroborated by standard Sahih works.

[Core Subject]: The Sufyani is a figure from the descendants of Abu Sufyan who, according to some reports, will rise in Sham before the Mahdi, spread oppression, and send an army that is swallowed by the earth.

[Described Characteristics]: There is no narration about the Sufyani in Bukhari, Muslim or the other six books. The reports come mainly from Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan and al-Hakim's al-Mustadrak; al-Dhahabi and other critics judged them weak or very weak.

[Timeline & Context]: The weak reports put him before the Mahdi. Because they are weak, no firm order can be built on them.

[Prophetic Practice]: Build your understanding of the end on what is authentic, and leave what is weak to the specialists.

[Core Subject]: The Abbasids, descendants of the Prophet's uncle al-Abbas, overthrew the Umayyads in 132 AH and ruled from Baghdad. Some reports are said to foretell their rise.

[Described Characteristics]: The reports that name them, or speak of a ruler called al-Saffah, are weak, and some were spread during the revolution itself. No sahih narration names the Abbasids.

[Timeline & Context]: They ruled from the second to the seventh Islamic century, until the Mongols ended their caliphate in Baghdad in 656 AH.

[Prophetic Practice]: When a movement claims prophecy for itself, check the grade of the narration first.

[Geographical Locations]: Mentioned in narration : Damascus.
