Kitab al-Fitan of Nu'aym ibn Hammad: ungraded, and weak overall. Never established on its own.

Traced to Ka'b al-Ahbar (automatic guess): a report of earlier scriptures, not a hadith of the Prophet ﷺ.

If the millstones of Banu Abbas turn around, and the owners of the black banners tie their horses to the olive trees of the Sham (Greater Syria), and Allah destroys the red-haired one for them, and kills him and most of his family at their hands, until there is no Umayyad among them left except one who flees or disappears, and the two palms fall: Banu Jaafar and Banu Abbas, and the son of the liver-eater sits on the pulpit of Damascus, and the Berbers go out to the navel of the Sham (Greater Syria), then it is a sign of the emergence of the Mahdi.

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #910 in Kitab al-Fitan (Nu'aym ibn Hammad).

[Scholarly Verification Notice]: Recorded in Nu'aym ibn Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan (d. 228 AH). Hadith scholars classify this historical compilation as ungraded and weak overall; its isolated reports are not accepted as established doctrine unless corroborated by standard Sahih works.

[Core Subject]: The Mahdi ('the rightly guided one') is a man from the Prophet's family, through Fatimah, who will lead the Muslims near the end of time and fill the earth with justice as it had been filled with oppression.

[Described Characteristics]: His name will match the Prophet's name and his father's name the Prophet's father's name (Muhammad ibn Abdullah). He has a broad forehead and a fine, high nose. He rules for seven years, wealth is plentiful in his time, and he gives it out by the handful without counting. Isa (AS) descends while he is about to lead the prayer.

[Timeline & Context]: He comes before the Dajjal, in the time of the great wars with the Romans, around the conquest of Constantinople and the descent of Isa (AS).

[Prophetic Practice]: Waiting for a rescuer is not the Sunnah. Work for justice where you are, and do not follow anyone who claims the title.

[Core Subject]: Black banners coming from the east, from Khurasan, appear in several reports as an army that comes before or with the Mahdi.

[Described Characteristics]: The best-known reports say: 'Black banners will come from Khurasan and nothing will turn them back until they are planted in Iliya (Jerusalem)', and 'If you see them, go to them even crawling over snow'. Hadith scholars graded these reports weak.

[Timeline & Context]: No sahih narration fixes their time.

[Prophetic Practice]: A flag's colour proves nothing. Judge any group by the Quran and Sunnah, not by its claims about prophecy.

[Core Subject]: The Abbasids, descendants of the Prophet's uncle al-Abbas, overthrew the Umayyads in 132 AH and ruled from Baghdad. Some reports are said to foretell their rise.

[Described Characteristics]: The reports that name them, or speak of a ruler called al-Saffah, are weak, and some were spread during the revolution itself. No sahih narration names the Abbasids.

[Timeline & Context]: They ruled from the second to the seventh Islamic century, until the Mongols ended their caliphate in Baghdad in 656 AH.

[Prophetic Practice]: When a movement claims prophecy for itself, check the grade of the narration first.

[Geographical Locations]: Mentioned in narration : Damascus, Sham (Greater Syria).
