Abu Dharr narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:" I know the last of the people of the Fire to depart from the Fire and the last of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise. A man will be brought forth and He (s.a.w) will say: 'Ask about his small sins and hide his large sins.' So it will be said to him: 'Did you do this and that on such and such a day, did you do this and that on such- and-such a day?'” He said: “Then it will be said to him; 'For each of your sins you shall have a reward.'” He (s.a.w) said: “So he will say: 'O Lord! I have done things that I do not see here.'” He (Abu Dharr) said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) laugh until his molars were visible.” (Sahih)

Synthesized commentary, isnad grading & cross-references

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #2596 in Jami' at-Tirmidhi.

[Isnad Grading & Assessment]: Scholar verdicts : Ahmad Muhammad Shakir: Sahih | Al-Albani: Sahih | Bashar Awad Maarouf: Hasan Sahih | Zubair Ali Zai: Sahih Muslim.

[Core Subject]: Jannah, Paradise, is the eternal home of the believers: 'what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart has imagined'.

[Described Characteristics]: Gardens with rivers of water, milk, honey and pure drink; a hundred levels, the highest al-Firdaws under the Throne. No illness, no ageing, no sorrow, no death. Its greatest joy is seeing Allah, and His saying: 'I am pleased with you and will never be displeased with you after this.'

[Timeline & Context]: After the Bridge, the believers enter it forever. Paradise already exists now.

[Prophetic Practice]: 'When you ask Allah, ask for al-Firdaws.'

[Core Subject]: Jahannam, Hellfire, is the abode of punishment for those who rejected Allah and for whom He decrees it. Believers who enter it for their sins are eventually brought out; the disbelievers remain.

[Described Characteristics]: Our fire is one of seventy parts of its heat. Its fuel is people and stones. It has seven gates. The lightest punishment in it is a man with embers under his feet that make his brain boil.

[Timeline & Context]: People enter it after the judgment. Like Paradise, it already exists now.

[Prophetic Practice]: 'Protect yourselves from the Fire, even with half a date in charity.' And ask: 'Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell.'
