Scholarly Commentary & Context

Synthesized commentary, isnad grading & cross-references

[Collection & Reference]: Narration #8515 in al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim).

[Isnad Grading & Assessment]: Scholar verdicts : al-Hakim: هذا حديث صحيح على شرط مسلم، ولم يخرجاه.

[Core Subject]: The Hour (al-Sa'ah) is the moment this world ends. Everything alive dies, the universe is undone, and then comes the resurrection. The Quran mentions it again and again, and the Prophet ﷺ spoke of the signs that come before it.

[Described Characteristics]: It comes suddenly, while people are busy with their lives: one man is selling cloth, another is fixing his water trough, another is lifting food to his mouth, and none of them finishes. Before it come signs, small ones that spread slowly and ten great ones that come close together.

[Timeline & Context]: Only Allah knows. The Quran says its knowledge is with Him alone, and when Jibril asked the Prophet ﷺ, he answered: the one asked knows no more than the one asking. Any date or countdown contradicts this.

[Prophetic Practice]: A man asked, 'When is the Hour?' The Prophet ﷺ asked back, 'What have you prepared for it?' The real question is our own preparation, not the date.

[Core Subject]: Men become few and women many, until fifty women have one man to look after them.

[Described Characteristics]: In another narration, one man is followed by forty women who seek his protection, because men are so few.

[Timeline & Context]: It spreads over time and has no fixed place in the order of the signs.

[Prophetic Practice]: 'The best of you are those best to their women.' Care for those who depend on you.

[Core Subject]: The Hour will not come while anyone on earth still says 'Allah, Allah'. After the believers are taken by a gentle wind, only the worst of people remain, and the Hour comes on them.

[Described Characteristics]: The narrations describe people who no longer know good from evil, who live like animals and mate openly in the streets. Shaytan comes to them and leads them back to idol worship. Their provision still reaches them and their lives look comfortable, until the Trumpet is blown.

[Timeline & Context]: This is the very end: after Isa (AS) and the believers of his time have passed, after the gentle wind, and just before the Trumpet.

[Prophetic Practice]: Keep the remembrance of Allah alive in your home. As long as His name is remembered, the end has not come.

[Core Subject]: A sign before the Hour in which the sky sends down abundant rain, yet the earth produces no crops or blessing (barakah) from it.

[Described Characteristics]: In Sahih Muslim 2904, the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Famine (al-sanah) is not that you receive no rain, but famine is that you receive rain and receive rain, yet the earth grows nothing.' In al-Mustadrak 8515, Anas narrated: 'The Hour will not come... until the sky rains and the earth grows nothing.'

[Timeline & Context]: Counted among the late minor signs preceding the severe three-year drought immediately before the emergence of the Dajjal.

[Prophetic Practice]: Seek barakah through taqwa (God-consciousness), istighfar (seeking forgiveness), and gratitude for sustenance.
