[Collection & Reference]: Narration #8303 in al-Mustadrak (al-Hakim).

[Core Subject]: The Hour (al-Sa'ah) is the moment this world ends. Everything alive dies, the universe is undone, and then comes the resurrection. The Quran mentions it again and again, and the Prophet ﷺ spoke of the signs that come before it.

[Described Characteristics]: It comes suddenly, while people are busy with their lives: one man is selling cloth, another is fixing his water trough, another is lifting food to his mouth, and none of them finishes. Before it come signs, small ones that spread slowly and ten great ones that come close together.

[Timeline & Context]: Only Allah knows. The Quran says its knowledge is with Him alone, and when Jibril asked the Prophet ﷺ, he answered: the one asked knows no more than the one asking. Any date or countdown contradicts this.

[Prophetic Practice]: A man asked, 'When is the Hour?' The Prophet ﷺ asked back, 'What have you prepared for it?' The real question is our own preparation, not the date.

[Core Subject]: Al-Rum, the Romans, were the Byzantine Empire in the Prophet's time. Many narrations about the end speak of the Muslims' relations with them: a truce, a joint war, then the great battle.

[Described Characteristics]: Amr ibn al-As heard that the Hour will come when the Romans are the most numerous of people, and he listed their good qualities: they are the most forbearing in trial, the quickest to recover after a disaster, the best to the poor, orphans and the weak, and they resist the oppression of kings.

[Timeline & Context]: Their part runs through the whole time before the Dajjal: first the truce, then the war, then the conquest of Constantinople.

[Prophetic Practice]: Amr's words teach fairness: name the good in others even when speaking of conflict.

[Core Subject]: The Prophet ﷺ said the Muslims will make a secure peace with the Romans, and together they will fight a common enemy.

[Described Characteristics]: They win and take spoils, and camp in a green meadow. A man from the Christians raises the cross and says 'The cross has won', a Muslim gets angry and breaks it, and the Romans betray the truce and gather for the great battle. In the hadith of Awf ibn Malik, there will be a truce with the Banu al-Asfar, who then come under eighty banners with twelve thousand men under each.

[Timeline & Context]: This truce opens the time before the Dajjal, and the great battle follows it.

[Prophetic Practice]: Keeping one's word is part of faith. Treaties are kept until the other side breaks them.

[Core Subject]: In the hardest days, when the Muslims were few and besieged, the Prophet ﷺ foretold that they would conquer Persia, Rome, Yemen, Sham, Iraq, Egypt and Jerusalem.

[Described Characteristics]: While digging the trench around Madinah, he struck a rock and said he had been given the keys of Sham, Persia and Yemen. He told Adi ibn Hatim that a woman would travel alone from al-Hirah to the Ka'bah fearing no one but Allah, and that the treasures of Kisra would be spent in the path of Allah. Adi lived to see both. He told Suraqah he would wear Kisra's bracelets; Umar put them on him.

[Timeline & Context]: They came in the first decades after the Prophet ﷺ: Jerusalem in 15-16 AH, Egypt in 20-21 AH, and Persia by about 31 AH.

[Prophetic Practice]: Hope in Allah's promise even in the narrowest times, as the Companions did at the trench.

[Geographical Locations]: Mentioned in narration : Baitul Maqdis (Jerusalem).
