Isa (AS)

In brief

Isa (AS), Jesus son of Maryam, is one of the great prophets of Allah. The Quran says he was not killed and not crucified: Allah raised him up to Himself. Near the end of time he will come back down to earth, kill the Dajjal, and rule justly by the law of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The hadith paint the moment vividly. He comes down at the white minaret east of Damascus, wearing two garments dyed with saffron, his hands resting on the wings of two angels. When he lowers his head, drops fall from it like pearls. He finds the Dajjal at the gate of Lud and kills him. He breaks the cross, kills the pig and ends the jizyah, and wealth becomes so plentiful that no one will accept it. He lives on earth for a time, marries, then dies, and the Muslims pray his funeral prayer.

He descends during the Dajjal's forty days, just as the Muslims are getting ready to pray, and Ya'juj and Ma'juj come out in his time. Christians also wait for Jesus to return, but in Islam he comes back as a servant and prophet of Allah, not as God, and he follows the final Messenger ﷺ. The Quran says that all the People of the Book will believe in him before his death.

What to do

The Prophet ﷺ said: whoever of you meets him, convey my salam to him.

Phase 4 / 7The Dajjal, Isa (AS), Ya'juj and Ma'juj

Al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an's narration gives this order: the Dajjal, the descent of Isa (AS) east of Damascus, the Dajjal killed at the gate of Lud, Ya'juj and Ma'juj, then a gentle wind that takes the believers' souls (Sahih Muslim 2937).
