The Bridge and the Pool

In brief

Al-Hawd is the Prophet's Pool (al-Kawthar), where his ummah drink before the crossing. Al-Sirat is the Bridge laid over Hell, which everyone must cross to reach Paradise. Both come after the reckoning.

The Pool's water is whiter than milk and sweeter than honey, and its cups are as many as the stars; whoever drinks from it never feels thirst again. The Bridge is thinner than a hair and sharper than a sword, with hooks along its sides. People cross it according to their deeds: some like lightning, some like the wind, some like fast horses, some running, some walking, some crawling, and some are snatched into the Fire. The prayer of the messengers on the Bridge is: 'O Allah, keep us safe, keep us safe.'

The Prophet ﷺ said some people will be driven away from the Pool. He will say, 'My companions!', and be told, 'You do not know what they changed after you.' Scholars explain this as a warning against changing the religion.

What to do

Follow the Sunnah without changing it, so you are not turned away from the Pool.
