The Trumpet

In brief

The angel Israfil will blow into the Trumpet (al-Sur). At the first blow everyone in the heavens and the earth falls dead, except whom Allah wills. At the second blow they all stand up, looking on. The first blow is the Hour itself; the second begins the resurrection.

It comes suddenly: a man hears it while fixing his camel's water trough and falls where he stands. Between the two blows is 'forty', and Abu Hurayrah would not say forty of what, days, months or years.

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'How can I be at ease when the angel of the Trumpet has put it to his mouth, bent his forehead, and is listening for the command to blow?' When the Companions asked what they should say, he taught them: 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakil.'

What to do

Say 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakil, ala Allahi tawakkalna' (Allah is enough for us, the best guardian; in Allah we trust).
