Isaiah 65:17-25; 66:15-24Isaiah

The Creation of New Heavens and New Earth, the Coming in Fire, and the Final Separation

Summary

God promises to create 'new heavens and a new earth' where the former troubles are forgotten and Jerusalem becomes a joy. Wolves and lambs will feed together and the lion will eat straw like the ox. In chapter 66, the Lord comes with fire and with chariots like a whirlwind to render His anger, and all flesh will see His glory. Those who rebelled will lie outside where their worm will not die and their fire will not be quenched.

Original text and meaning

65:17Hebrew

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind.

66:15Hebrew

For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and his chariots will be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fierceness, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

Close parallels in Islam

Surah Ibrahim (14:48) affirms: 'The Day when the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens as well.' The cessation of harm among predators mirrors the prophecy of the peaceful era during the descent of Isa (AS) where lions graze with cattle (Musnad Ahmad 9270). The eternal fire matches Jahannam described in the Qur'an and Hadith.
