Daniel 7:1-28Daniel

The Four Beasts, the Arrogant Little Horn (Anti-Christ), and the Son of Man

Summary

Daniel sees four great empires emerging from the turbulent sea. From the ten horns of the terrifying fourth beast arises a 'little horn' with human eyes and a mouth speaking pompous blasphemies. This ruler wages war against the holy ones, attempts to alter times and divine laws, and dominates until the Ancient of Days convenes the court, slays the beast, and confers eternal dominion to the Son of Man.

Original text and meaning

7:8Aramaic

While I was considering the horns, behold, another horn, a little one, came up among them... and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

7:13-14Aramaic

I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man... There was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.

7:25Aramaic

He will speak words against the Most High, and will wear out the saints of the Most High; and he will think to change the times and the law; and they will be given into his hand until a time, times, and half a time.

Close parallels in Islam

The 'Little Horn' is the foremost Hebrew Bible prototype for Al-Masih ad-Dajjal (the False Messiah / Antichrist), matching hadith accounts of the Dajjal's boasting, his claim of lordship, and his worldwide persecution of believers. The Son of Man arriving on the clouds of heaven parallels the Islamic descent of 'Isa ibn Maryam to defeat the deceiver and establish justice.

Background

Written in Biblical Aramaic (Dan 2:4-7:28). In Jewish eschatology, this marks the transition from worldly pagan empires to the Messianic Kingdom. In Christian theology, the little horn is the final Antichrist. In academic research, it establishes that the concept of an apocalyptic arch-deceiver was foundational across Ancient Near Eastern monotheism.

Daniel 9:24-27; 11:31-36; 12:1-3Daniel

The Abomination of Desolation in the Sanctuary, Great Tribulation, and Resurrection

Summary

Gabriel reveals the timeline of seventy weeks decreed for Jerusalem and the Holy Sanctuary. A ruthless prince breaks covenant, halts the daily sacrifices, and sets up the 'abomination that makes desolate' upon the wing of the temple. Chapter 12 foretells an unprecedented time of anguish, Archangel Michael arising, deliverance of those written in the book, and the bodily resurrection of the dead to everlasting life or everlasting contempt.

Original text and meaning

9:27Hebrew

He will confirm a covenant with many for one week; and in the middle of the week he will cause the sacrifice and the offering to cease. On the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, until the full decreed end is poured out.

12:1-2Hebrew

At that time Michael will stand up, the great prince who stands for the children of your people; and there will be a time of trouble, such as never was... Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Close parallels in Islam

This prophecy forms the scriptural backbone of debates surrounding the desecration and rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem. In Islamic hadiths, Bayt al-Maqdis is besieged by the Dajjal until Prophet 'Isa pursues him to the Gate of Ludd. Daniel 12:2 contains one of the Hebrew Bible's clearest statements on the bodily resurrection (Al-Ba'th wa an-Nushur).

Background

Historically foreshadowed by Antiochus IV Epiphanes (167 BC) and the Roman destruction of 70 AD. Jesus cited this prophecy in Matthew 24:15 as an unfulfilled future sign preceding the end of the age. Modern groups preparing for a 'Third Temple' cite this text as requiring a functional sanctuary before the end times.

Isaiah 2:1-4; 11:1-9; 26:19Isaiah

The Exalted Mountain of Zion, Messianic Peace among Predators, and Bodily Resurrection

Summary

Isaiah envisions the Mountain of the Lord's house established as the highest of mountains in the latter days, with nations beating swords into plowshares and renouncing war. Chapter 11 foretells a Davidic Messianic ruler under whose righteous reign the wolf dwells with the lamb and the leopard with the goat. Chapter 26:19 provides an explicit affirmation of bodily resurrection: 'Your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust!'

Original text and meaning

2:4Hebrew

He will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples; and they will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war any more.

11:6Hebrew

The wolf will live with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat; the calf, the young lion, and the fattened calf together; and a little child will lead them.

26:19Hebrew

Your dead will live. Their bodies will rise. Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of herbs, and the earth will cast forth the dead.

Close parallels in Islam

The prophecy of predators living peacefully alongside gentle animals directly matches the authentic hadiths describing the reign of Prophet 'Isa (AS) following the death of Dajjal: 'Lions will graze with camels, tigers with cows, and wolves with sheep, and children will play with snakes without being harmed' (Musnad Ahmad 9270, Sahih).

Background

Foundational Hebrew Bible prophecies concerning the Messianic Age (*Yemot HaMashiach*) and the vindication of God's covenant with Zion.

Isaiah 65:17-25; 66:15-24Isaiah

The Creation of New Heavens and New Earth, the Coming in Fire, and the Final Separation

Summary

God promises to create 'new heavens and a new earth' where the former troubles are forgotten and Jerusalem becomes a joy. Wolves and lambs will feed together and the lion will eat straw like the ox. In chapter 66, the Lord comes with fire and with chariots like a whirlwind to render His anger, and all flesh will see His glory. Those who rebelled will lie outside where their worm will not die and their fire will not be quenched.

Original text and meaning

65:17Hebrew

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered, nor come into mind.

66:15Hebrew

For, behold, the Lord will come with fire, and his chariots will be like the whirlwind; to render his anger with fierceness, and his rebuke with flames of fire.

Close parallels in Islam

Surah Ibrahim (14:48) affirms: 'The Day when the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens as well.' The cessation of harm among predators mirrors the prophecy of the peaceful era during the descent of Isa (AS) where lions graze with cattle (Musnad Ahmad 9270). The eternal fire matches Jahannam described in the Qur'an and Hadith.

Background

Hebrew Tanakh conclusion to Isaiah. Foundational text cited in New Testament (Rev 21:1) and Jewish Rabbinic descriptions of the World to Come (Olam Ha-Ba).
